Lyme Bay Winery Wins ‘Best Wine’ For It’s Rosé

Devon based Lyme Bay Winery is celebrating again this month after winning the “Best Wine” category in the third Great British Food Awards for its Sparkling Rosé. This follows on from being awarded a number of high profile drinks awards over the past few months, including a BRC Global Standard (Issue 7) with a Grade A rating, adding to their already impressive reputation as a leading English wine producer.
Since launching the English wines in 2015, Lyme Bay Winery has acquired an impressive 70 awards for still and sparkling wines, including the Pinot Noir Masters Competition, the Independent English Wine Awards, the International Wine Challenge, the Sommelier Wine Awards, the Decanter World Wine Awards, the International Wine & Spirits Competition and the UKVA Wine Awards.
On the latest success, managing director James Lambert, comments:
“We had a vision to become known as one of England’s finest wine producers. We are therefore thrilled to win Best Wine in the Great British Food Awards, on top of the flurry of awards we have received recently which is creating global recognition.”
Judge Grace Dent, food critic at the Evening Standard, commented:
“I was a sucker for a rosé brut anyway, and then this absolute gem came along from Axminster in Devon. A pretty pale pink hue with gorgeous notes of apple and raspberry. Sweet and charming enough to win over even the hardest of hearts. Perfect with fish. Actually, perfect with almost anything!”
An official spokes-person for Great British Food praised the team:

“We had a huge number of great entries this year so you should be very proud indeed!”

Lyme Bay Sparkling Rosé is made by the assemblage method, which involves blending a small portion of Pinot Noir red wine with Lyme Bay’s Blanc de Noir cuvée base wine.  The red wine was produced from a small parcel of exceptionally ripe Burgundy clone Pinot Noir grapes, which were hand-harvested.  Once blended with the Blanc de Noir the resulting Sparkling Rosé is a vibrant soft pink wine with notes of wild strawberries, pepper and redcurrant on the nose and a bright, fruit-driven palate with a richness of honey and hits of brioche and almond.
Lyme Bay Sparkling Rosé is available direct from Lyme Bay Winery, RRP £24.50.
