STR Logistics’ First Mercedes-Benz Vans Win a Resounding ‘Thumbs Up’ From Drivers
The newest member of the Mercedes-Benz Vans Dealer Network achieved an early breakthrough by introducing one of Devon’s foremost transport solution providers to the benefits of running premium brand vehicles bearing the legendary three-pointed star.
STR Logistics’ four fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Citan 109 CDIs arrived via the Mercedes-Benz Van Centre Exeter, which began trading in January from its stylish, high-tech showroom on Hennock Road, Marsh Barton.
Founded by Managing Director Steven Richardson in 2000, STR Logistics is based at modern headquarters in Alphington, Exeter, and offers a comprehensive portfolio of national and local distribution and supply chain services.
STR Logistics’ fleet of 40 vans has been dominated for some years by a French brand, so the decision to order its first Mercedes-Benz vehicles represented a coup for the Dealer’s Corporate Sales Manager Nicola Townsend. She made a compelling case for the smallest member of the Mercedes-Benz Vans family, and for the aftersales back-up which the Mercedes-Benz Van Centre Exeter is able to offer at its state-of-the-art workshop.
Mr Richardson confirmed:
“The pricing on the Citans was certainly competitive and I was impressed with the overall package, particularly the manufacturer’s three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, which is markedly superior to the one offered by our established vehicle supplier.”
STR Logistics’ Long-bodied Citans are powered by 90 hp engines and fitted as standard with fuel-saving BlueEFFICIENCY measures including the ECO start/stop function, low rolling resistance tyres, and optimised alternator and battery management systems. The result is an outstanding economy figure for this model of up to 65.7 mpg in the combined cycle.
“The Citans are performing every bit as well as we’d hoped,” continued Mr Richardson. “They’ve also proved to be very popular with our drivers, who find them a lot more comfortable than our other vans.
“Mercedes-Benz vans are renowned for commanding strong residual values, too, so I’d like to think we’ll get a bit more money back when we come to sell ours in three or four years’ time.”
Like all Mercedes-Benz vans, STR Logistics’ new Citans also came with MobiloVan cover, which includes free emergency roadside assistance.
“I hope we won’t have cause to use it, but the breakdown service is certainly reassuring,” he added.
Part of the family-owned Snows Motor Group, the Mercedes-Benz Van Centre Exeter has set new standards for brand representation. Its welcoming showroom includes a huge, nine-screen interactive TV display, while the Dealer’s factory-trained technicians undertake Class 4, 5 and 7 MoT tests, as well as maintenance and repairs.
STR Logistics’ Steven Richardson has toured the facilities:
“It’s a very smart, professional set-up,” he recalled. “I’m particularly encouraged by the fact that the Dealer is a commercial vehicle specialist, because this means it understands the crucial importance of keeping my vans on the road and earning; I simply cannot afford any unplanned ‘downtime’.”
Nicola Townsend commented:
“STR Logistics is an important member of the road transport community here in Devon, so we’re naturally delighted to have won this prestigious order. It is encouraging that the Citans have been so well received, and we now look forward to building on these foundations by delivering the industry-leading quality of aftercare that will enable us to develop our new relationship with Steven Richardson and his colleagues.”
