STAGECOACH LISTEN TO FEEDBACK AND ANNOUNCE TRIAL OF GREAT VALUE “1+2” EXETER DAYRIDER TICKET
STAGECOACH ANNOUNCES TRIAL OF NEW “1+2” EXETER DAYRIDER IN TIME FOR SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
- New £6 ticket offers great value daily travel for one adult and up to two children
- Company commits to ticket trial and passenger survey in response to customer feedback
Stagecoach South West announced this weekend that it is to trial a new Exeter day ticket.
The ‘1+2’ Exeter Dayrider will cost £6, gives unlimited daily travel within the Exeter zone for adults accompanied by either one or two children and will be available in time for the school holidays at the end of July.
The ticket is being introduced following customer feedback to changes Stagecoach made to its fare structure earlier in the year. These included expanding its range of day tickets to encourage young people to travel independently and the cessation of the £1 ‘add on’ offer.
The new ‘1+2’ Dayrider reduces the current cost of an adult travelling with one or two children by up to £2. For larger groups, an Exeter Group Dayrider remains the best value day ticket at £8.
Young people who are ready to travel independently can still purchase a Child Dayrider for £3 or the Group Dayrider if they are out with their friends.
Bob Dennison, Managing Director of Stagecoach South West, commented
“We have listened to our customers and we’re introducing this new ticket to ensure we are meeting their needs, especially at a time when families are facing increasing financial pressures.
“Customer feedback has clearly demonstrated the need for a ticket that allows one adult to travel with one or two children and I believe the ‘1+2’ Dayrider is the missing piece in our day ticket structure.
“We will be closely monitoring its uptake over the coming months whilst at the same time undertaking further research into the most suitable products for adults travelling with children.”
Emma Brennan, Councillor for Heavitree & Whipton Barton, added
“The change from a £1 add-on to a £3 child Dayrider has had an enormous impact on the lives and budgets of many families within Exeter, especially single parents and others on low incomes, and particularly for parents travelling by bus to and from school.
“I am pleased that Stagecoach has listened to the concerns of families, and has worked to find a new fare that I hope most people will see as a satisfactory compromise. In fact, for an adult travelling with two children, the new Dayrider fare of £6 is only 10p more than the previous fare with two add-ons, which totaled £5.90.
“I sincerely hope that the trial of the ‘1+2’ Dayrider is a success and that it can become a permanent fixture.”
The trial is scheduled to last until the end of 2018 and, during this time, its impact will be assessed. As part of the assessment, Stagecoach has also committed to undertake research amongst adults with children to gain a better understanding of their travel habits and the products that would be most suitable for them.
Councillor Rosie Denham, Portfolio Holder for City Transformation, Energy & Transport at Exeter City Council, commented
“I will be working alongside Stagecoach on the research to ensure it accurately captures the views of Exeter’s residents. By agreeing to this, Stagecoach is demonstrating it has listened to its customers’ concerns and is committed to finding a way forward that will benefit everyone.”
The ‘1+2’ Exeter Dayrider will be available to buy on bus and as a mobile ticket via the Stagecoach app from the start of the summer holidays. Exeter adult, child and group Dayriders can also be bought from the driver and via the app. For more information on the app, visit www.stagecoachbus.com.
