Portlebay Popcorn is a South West success story. It’s name was inspired by Sunny Cove in East Portlemouth near Salcombe and all the popcorn remains handmade at its ‘Poppery’ in Plympton, Devon. They currently have the capacity to produce 900 tonnes a year, that’s enough to fill 14 jumbo jets! Jonty White, founder and CEO of Portlebay Popcorn is keen to remain the leading popcorn brand in the South West despite stiff competition.
Portlebay Popcorn is already sold in a number of independent retailers as well as multiples such as Tesco, Lidl, Sainsbury’s, The Range and Budgens but it hopes to increase sales amongst food aficionados in the region by promoting its unique flavours such as Crispy Bacon & Maple Syrup as well as seasonal flavours such as Cinnamon Swirl (winter) and Lemon Sherbet (summer).
To do so Jonty has engaged a leading South West marketing consultancy, Chalk + Ward, to help the company fulfil its ambition. Chalk + Ward will be working with Jonty on branding, design work and social media. Jonty is no stranger to success in this marketplace. He is the former owner of Burt’s Potato Chips, which he grew into an international success and sold in 2012.
With fashion conscious, socially savvy, 18-25 females as a key audience for the brand, the Chalk + Ward team are working on a social media plan to push engagement and awareness to this highly influential audience.
