Happiness. The New Productivity?

Grow Exeter Wire Creative

Written by Jess Dunbar It’s a New Year – and isn’t the pursuit of happiness everyone’s ultimate resolution?   In fact, happiness seems to have been firmly on the nation’s agenda for some time.  Scandinavian ways of life have been hugely influential in Britain since last year’s obsession with “hygge” (a wellness trend based on living cosily), which was swiftly followed up with a succession of other ideologies.  And who are we to argue?  Fika; the habit of stopping for coffee with cake, or Lagom; the Swedish secret to contentment, all just sound too good to pass up. But what […]

India Meets….. The Deep South FreeRunning Team

Grow Exeter Deep South Free Running

Written By India Nye, Photography by Tom Taylor We all want to turn our deeply loved hobbies into a business opportunity, to feel as if we aren’t working at all. That’s exactly what the team Captain of Deep South, Exeter’s own free-running group, is trying to do. I met up with Tom Taylor and his teammate Ed Scott, in Artigiano, to talk all things free-running; a sport I had very limited knowledge of.  One of the things I was curious about, was the point at which Tom realised that his hobby could be so much more. “I think it’s mainly due […]

Catching up with… William Laitinen

Grow Exeter William Latinen

Written by Joff Alexander-Frye It isn’t every day that you meet someone for a coffee and end up having your mindset expanded. This is exactly what happened though,  when I recently had the pleasure of meeting William Laitinen, the Managing Director of global recruitment firm Exige International, at Hotel du Vin in Exeter. After we had made our initial introductions (and ordered a round of, what I have found to be, some of the finest coffee in Exeter) William went on to talk me through his fascinating personal history. He explained how he had moved to Devon as a young […]

Head of Devon’s reinvigorated library service to reveal what it takes to pioneer a social enterprise in unchartered territory, at a time of austerity In 2014, the future of Devon’s 50 public libraries was called into question when Devon County Council, the then service provider, had to save £1.5m from its library service budget over three years. By 2016, after extensive public consultation, independent charity and social enterprise Libraries Unlimited, took over the running of the library service following a spin-out from the county council. In its short life span, the charity has reinvigorated the service, is on track to […]
